The carbon cycle

The carbon cycle describes how carbon moves between the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. Plants absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, animals release it back through respiration, and decomposers return it to the soil as organic matter breaks down. Human activities like burning fossil fuels have significantly increased the amount of carbon entering the atmosphere, disrupting this natural balance.
